UN Women Warns of Unprecedented Impact on Women and Girls in Gaza Crisis
In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, UN Women has issued a “Gender Alert” report highlighting the disproportionate impact on women and girls.
With at least 24,620 Palestinians killed, about 70% are estimated to be women and children. The crisis has led to nearly one million displaced women and girls facing precarious shelter conditions.
UN Women estimates around 3,000 women may have become widows and heads of households, while 10,000 children may have lost their fathers. Despite the escalation, women-led organizations are partially operational, focusing on emergency response. UN Women calls for a humanitarian ceasefire, emphasizing women’s and girls’ protection and safe access to gender-responsive assistance.
